I achieved a First Class degree in physical Geography from the University of Hull. My dissertation focused on the reclassification of ash aggregates at Side Pike in the Lake District. I logged the volcanic and sedimentary succession, interpreting the mechanism of deposition as well as possible ways in which the various types of ash aggregates would have formed. I then went on to complete a Masters in Volcanology at the University of Bristol. My thesis used FTIR and Raman spectroscopy to determine the CO2 and H2O concentrations of melt inclusions from Morne aux Diables Volcano in Dominica. The aim of the study was to determine the depths at which magma was sorted and investigate the degassing history of the magma. Although the trapping depths of the inclusions were not able to be accurately resolved I was able to offer theories on the reasons behind the different melt inclusion morphologies found within the samples.
Current Research
My current research will focus on the volcanoes of Ethiopia, specifically Corbetti Volcano. I aim to investigate the large caldera forming eruption that occurred around 182 ka years ago potentially conducting a comparison with other volcanoes in the region. I will employ various geochemical techniques to determine the origin of peralkaline lavas and how this may have influence the style of volcanism at the volcano.
